Fuego 10U: TPR Halloween Classic Runner Up

Fuego 10U finishes 2nd place at the USSSA TPR Halloween Classic in Manteca and Ripon, California, winning 11-1 in the quarter final, 2-1 in the semifinal, then losing on a walk off to the Cal Valley Shuckers 9-8 in the Championship game.

On Saturday the Fuego 10U team came out ready to play, beating a solid Corcoran Cubs team 9-3 in the first game by playing solid defense, manufacturing runs and getting solid pitching from Dylan Manago and Jaxon Ash. Game two saw the boys down 10-3, only to score 7 runs in the 4th to tie the game up in a battle, but losing the game 13-10 vs CC Alpha Elite… but Fuego would get some revenge the next day.

On Championship Sunday, after winning their quarter final game 11-1 vs the Tri-Valley Tigers, the Fuego 10’s squared up once again against CC Alpha Elite in the semifinal game. In a nerve wracking 2-1 win, Dylan Manago pitched 5 innings of 1 hit, shut out baseball, before handing the ball back over to Jaxon Ash to close out the game. Jaxon struggled a bit to start, but then found his form and was able to get the big save and preserve the lead, giving Fuego a 2-1 win to move onto the championship game.
In the Championship Game vs the Cal Valley Shuckers, the Fuego 10’s jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but then watched that lead slip away over the next 5 innings, going into the 6th and final inning with an 8-4 deficit. In the top of the 6th, Fuego battled back, came up with huge hits, which included Tait Puntanilla’s game tying 2 out, 2 run single to make the game 8-8. Fuego left runners on 1st and 2nd to end the inning, and then saw the Shuckers walk them off in the bottom of the 6th, taking a 9-8 victory along with the first place championship.

In the end, it was a fun, exciting and rainy weekend of baseball for this Fuego club, and we are proud of the resilience and teamwork they demonstrated on the field, and taking home the 2nd place hardware.
