Fuego 14U (2029) Wins the Summer Heat Championship
The Fuego Baseball 14U team put together a dominant weekend run at the Summer Heat NCTB, held July 26–27, closing it out with a championship.
They opened the tournament with a statement win over the College Park Knights, rolling to a 16-0 shutout. The bats came alive early, with Jacoby Matheny and Wyatt Bothen driving in multiple runs. The offense poured on eight runs in the third and five more in the fourth, while Lucas Dullaghan kept the Knights scoreless on the mound. Fuego turned three double plays and played clean defense to lock down the victory.
In their second game, JR Serrano powered the lineup with four RBIs in an 8-0 win against All In Baseball Wild. Marcus Martinez started strong on the mound, tossing nearly three innings of no-hit ball before handing it off to Matheny, who kept the shutout intact. The team ran wild on the bases, stealing 12 bags in total.
Sunday brought tougher competition against San Jose Oaks, but Fuego found a way to grind out a 3-1 win. Jacob Gutierrez delivered the big swing with a two-run double, while Bothen controlled the game from the mound with six strikeouts across four-plus innings.
The championship game against Game Prep capped off the weekend. Fuego pitchers combined for a five-man shutout in a 5-0 win. Matheny earned the decision, while Gutierrez, Smith, Bunnell, and Serrano all helped close the door. The offense stayed steady with 11 hits, including two apiece from Gutierrez, Matheny, Bunnell, and Bothen. The defense was flawless once again, turning double plays and finishing the game without an error.
It was a complete team effort all weekend at the Summer Heat. Timely hitting, strong pitching, aggressive base running, and sharp defense carried Fuego 14U to the tournament title.
